The Honda Stepwagon / Stepwgn Owners Club

Hi guys - hoping you can help.

Bought a Stepwagon at the start of the year, and now want it serviced and a cam belt change.

A local garage has told me that they can get a belt, provided that I can confirm that my engine number is B20B.

They suggested simply looking around the front of the engine for the number, but I've not had much success. Any ideas?

(It's a 1997 Stepwagon, 2.0l automatic.)

I don't know for sure which of those particular models applies to mine, but it looks safe to assume that if it's in between 1996 and 1999, then it's a B20B.

Hi - Mine's a 1999 (Feb) - engine is B20B.
The engine number is on the front of the engine casting and can be seen on a flat bit (which on mine needed a good rub to clean off the surface corrosion). Don't confuse this with the gearbox number which is a stuck-on label at the far off-side of the engine.

Belt has arrived, and I'm getting a local garage to fit it next week.

However, the fitter also asked if I knew if the timing belt in a Stepwagon supplies the water pump, because, if so, he would suggest doing that at the same time. Anyone know?

My copy of the Shop Manual Supplement, Honda Stepwgn 98, in the mintenance section only says (for 100,000 km) 'replace timing belt and inspect water pump for signs of seal leakage' - it does not mention a separate belt for the water pump.
