Towbar & Chassis number

Postby Scrap » Wed Mar 13, 2013 5:31 pm

Hi all

Hope there's someone around now that Simon's tidied up the forum.

I've been looking at towbars on ebay and for the 2001-> they quote a chassis number of "RF3-15", but my chassis number starts "RF3-10.....".

Does anyone know the significance of the "-15" / "-10"

I agree - it's confusing.

Have you tried contacting the seller? The one I looked at was the first one up in ebay when I put in 'stepwgn towbar' ( p.fjones ) - link

(only a few came up from 'stepwagon towbar').

Hope this helps.

Hi PARR

I fired-off a couple of emails yesterday.
A1tow.com have just replied "I’m sorry but the only Honda Stepwagon we have is for chassis number RF1-2. The RF3 is now obsolete".
The other so far has only replied that "I will have to check for you".

Watling Engineers have quoted £500-£550 + vat to design and make one.

I'll keep you posted.

I must admit that I wouldn't expect much difference bodywork-wise in the RF-3 run - I wonder whether Vantastic has a tow-bar? If so maybe he could sketch it for you if his Steppy is RF3-10

I contacted Wellhouse Leisure yesterday where I bought the Stepwagon. They said they'd had some specially made and have them in stock. All being well it's being fitted next week.

Why I didn't think of trying them first I don't know. Age I guess.

I'll let you know when it's fitted (or otherwise).

Thanks for your help.

Glad you were successful.

I tried them for the rotating mounting for the passenger seat - they had had some of those made too, but had just fitted the last one! They didn't know when they would re-order, as they said they had to order several which was expensive.

Round trip of 200 miles yesterday to get my towbar fitted and guess what? The one they fitted was the same one that's on ebay (A1Towing HD479 for RF3-15) that two suppliers told me wouldn't fit. I could have bought one and had it fitted locally (and avoided the chipped windscreen I received on the M1).

Sod's Law still operates, doesn't it?

Glad you got sorted anyway.
