Hey up, you seem quite mechanically talented. My head gasket has just blown aledgedly, when you remove the oil cap it smells of petrol, im guessing the guy was probably right as he was only the recovery man and i wasnt paying him anything.
Anyway, do you know if the engine is the same as the Honda CRV so i can get a Head Gasket kit, and is it worth replacing the cam belt at the same time a i do not know when it was last done?

Regards

Graeme

yea crv are same engine just a few things slightly different but the cylinder head ect are the same just quote honda b20b engine they used the in the earlier preludes too i suggest change timing belt as theres no point in doing all that work doing the gasket and a month later belt snaps and making more damage at least you have that piece of mind knowing everythings done ok along with the belt

Not sure what the problem is, there is no water in the oil, the is a strong smell of petrol and the recovery guy said it could be head gasket. The garage it is now stuck at are reluctant to fix it as they cannot get the 'technical data' for it and are worried of come backs should anything go wrong. I need to know if it is the same b20b engine data of the same year, mine is an RF1 on a '97 plate. can they work from the same things as a 2.0l CRV of the same year? and would off the shelf parts for a CRV fit? I dont see the big issue, but im not a mechanic.

Cheers for any help.

Graeme

What 'technical data' do they need?
I've just got a Shop Manual Supplement for 1998 steppys, which give a lot of technical details about the engine, but doen not give head gasket thickness.
The info is things like clearances and end-floats and dimensions of parts, but no part numbers.
Headed as Standards and Service limits.
If it could be useful, post your needs - if I can help I will post back.
